Out of 18 free web hosting providers, Infinityfree is our recommended choice with Byethost, Googiehost, 000Webhost, FreeHostingNoAds, and FreeWebHostingArea being the other options. The expense of setting up and maintaining a website can add up quickly, so picking the best free website hosting provider for your needs can help cut costs. But be careful, as we found that out of a list of 18 free website providers that we compiled, only eight of them – less than half, in other words – actually delivered the goods.

2 Sentiment analysis with tidy data | Text Mining with R

https://www.tidytextmining.com/sentiment.html

Saved by uncleflo on December 23rd, 2018.

In the previous chapter, we explored in depth what we mean by the tidy text format and showed how this format can be used to approach questions about word frequency. This allowed us to analyze which words are used most frequently in documents and to compare documents, but now let’s investigate a different topic. Let’s address the topic of opinion mining or sentiment analysis. When human readers approach a text, we use our understanding of the emotional intent of words to infer whether a section of text is positive or negative, or perhaps characterized by some other more nuanced emotion like surprise or disgust. We can use the tools of text mining to approach the emotional content of text programmatically, as shown in Figure 2.1.

How to Upgrade Your Network to 10 Gb/s and Speed Up Your Workflow

Saved by uncleflo on October 28th, 2018.

We've finally done it: Fstoppers has moved over to a new 10 Gb/second network and server and it is incredibly fast. Let me show you what we did and how you can create your own 10 Gb/s network for a fraction of the price. For the past four years we have been using a Synology NAS (network attached storage) device to work from and to backup all of our photo and video content. It has served us well but as we hire more people, and as we begin shooting videos in 4K, it has been filling up and slowing down. It was time for us to upgrade.

A while ago I covered why I decided to purchase a NAS drive, specifically a Synology NAS. It has been a couple months since I owned this device and I’m happier than ever about this purchase. Those consumer grade NAS are intended for the small amount of device to access files from the local network, this also means if you are away from local network accessing those files will be limited to the web interface. While Synology has an excellent Web UI that lets you do many basic tasks, but access file through none traditional Web UI is cumbersome. Only it would be nice if you can mount and map the same network drives even while you are away from your home’s local network.

IIS URL Rewrite 2.1 enables Web administrators to create powerful rules to implement URLs that are easier for users to remember and easier for search engines to find. By using rule templates, rewrite maps, .NET providers, and other functionality integrated into IIS Manager, Web administrators can easily set up rules to define URL rewriting behavior based on HTTP headers, HTTP response or request headers, IIS server variables, and even complex programmatic rules. In addition, Web administrators can perform redirects, send custom responses, or stop HTTP requests based on the logic expressed in the rewrite rules.

Let's look at a common task that a developer does in their day-to-day job. A database table is to be modified for its data and/or structure. Before making any changes, the first thing that is always wise to do is to back up the database table. The easy way to accomplish this is to write a piece of SQL script like below. The scenario is we're going to make some changes to Products table, so here we go. Copy and paste the following SQL to your SQLyog free Community Edition query window. Note that the SQL needs to end with semi-colon if you have multiple queries in the query window. Most of the queries in the tutorials need Northwind MySQL database, you can download the database script on this page.

I'm setting up a new server, and want to support UTF-8 fully in my web application. I have tried in the past on existing servers and always seem to end up having to fall back to ISO-8859-1. Where exactly do I need to set the encoding/charsets? I'm aware that I need to configure Apache, MySQL and PHP to do this - is there some standard checklist I can follow, or perhaps troubleshoot where the mismatches occur? This is for a new Linux server, running MySQL 5, PHP 5 and Apache 2.

We want everything to look nice and sharp for anyone who uses any of the websites we work on, but we need to keep file sizes down for performance. There is pretty much only one way to go with icons, logos and illustrations on the web — SVG. Scalable Vector Graphics can look crisp at all screen resolutions, can have super small file sizes, and can be easily edited and modified. This guide aims to give a practical overview of how you can use SVGs on your websites — with some tips and tricks along the way to get the most out of them.

More Meaningful Typography

http://alistapart.com/article/more-meaningful-typography

Saved by uncleflo on April 20th, 2018.

We have all heard of the golden mean (also known as the golden ratio or golden section): the self-replicating page with a proportion of 1:1.618 that is said to be found in everything from the design of ancient Greek architecture to the growth patterns of plants. This and other meaningful ratios rooted in geometry, music, nature, and history can be expressed as modular scales and put to work on the web. A modular scale is a sequence of numbers that relate to one another in a meaningful way. Using the golden ratio, for example, we can produce values for a modular scale by multiplying by 1.618 to arrive at the next highest number, or dividing by 1.618 to arrive at the next number down.

You Don't Need jQuery!

Saved by uncleflo on April 7th, 2018.

Free yourself from the chains of jQuery by embracing and understanding the modern Web API and discovering various directed libraries to help you fill in the gaps. In this fifth installment of “You Don’t Need jQuery (anymore)”, I’m going to talk about dealing with events in the browser without jQuery. As always, each section will cover the jQuery approach, followed by a solution using the native Web API instead. After reading this post on events, you should be confident enough to deal with events in your own project without using jQuery. As I’ve mentioned (many times) before, this blog is not about bad-mouthing jQuery. jQuery is, without a doubt, ubiquitous in the world of web development. In the earlier days of web development, jQuery was required to smooth out the significant implementation differences and bugs found in various browsers when dealing with the DOM and the Web API as a whole. Also, the Web API was quite primitive at the time, in some respects, and jQuery helped to make development a bit more intuitive.

phpMiniAdmin for MySQL

Saved by uncleflo on March 8th, 2018.

phpminiadmin - extremely lightweight alternative to heavy phpMyAdmin for quick and easy access MySQL databases. Instead of installing huge phpMyAdmin (~11Mb) and trying to figure out how to use all it's features, just upload one ~30Kb file and it's ready to use! Then access it via the browser (ex. http://yoursite.com/phpminiadmin.php). Script will ask you for DB login/pwd. After successfull db login you will see area where you able to enter any SQL commands (select, update, insert, etc.). Even if you don't know SQL it's still easy to: browse tables and see all the data, click to un/highlight rows
manage tables in DB, export and import data to .sql and CSV using 'quick links' on the top bar (see screenshots), see what databases you have permission with, check server status and statistics, ability to do CRUD (i.e. insert, select, update, delete), and launch any SQL supported by any version of MySQL. And due to it's simplicity script really fast and need just a little server resources! (your hosting provider will be glad ;)

It is a new tool, yet stable in our development environment, and it has a friendly authoring tool. There are a couple ways you can make a StoryMap. Maps: Add a slide for each place in your story. Setting the location is as easy as a text search for the name, address, or latitude and longitude. You can change the visual style of your map with a few presets, or you can use Mapbox to create your own style. Really big images: You can tell stories with large photographs, works of art, historic maps, and other image files. Because it works best with pixel-dense files, we call these gigapixel. I evaluated NGINX Plus and was amazed at its power. The benchmarks just blew me away. The amount of traffic that NGINX Plus can handle is unreal – even beyond our needs. Availability and scalability are incredibly important, but security is most important for us. With the ability to meet our security requirements and stay ahead of the curve, NGINX Plus is our vehicle for moving forward. NGINX Plus gives us flexibility in our underlying cloud platform to innovate faster. It enables us to be more responsive to our customers and provide them with the level of scale and performance they need. We had an expensive upgrade coming up with our current load balancing provider, so we looked at alternatives. We found that we could do more with NGINX Plus and do it at a quarter of the cost at most.

How to Install Node.js® and NPM on Windows

http://blog.teamtreehouse.com/install-node-js-npm-windows

Saved by uncleflo on December 27th, 2017.

JavaScript is quickly becoming the go-to language for web developers. Front-end web developers use JavaScript to add user interface enhancements, add interactivity, and talk to back-end web services using AJAX. Web developers who work on the server-side are also flocking to JavaScript because of the efficiencies and speed offered by JavaScript’s event-driven, non-blocking nature. In fact, concentrating on JavaScript as your language of choice offers the opportunity to master a single language while still being able to develop “full-stack” web applications. The key to this server-side JavaScript revolution is Node.js® — a version of Chrome’s V8 JavaScript runtime engine — which makes it possible to run JavaScript on the server-side. Node.js is also used for developing desktop applications and for deploying tools that make developing web sites simpler. For example, by installing Node.js® on your desktop machine, you can quickly convert CoffeeScript to JavaScript, SASS to CSS, and shrink the size of your HTML, JavaScript and graphic files. Using NPM — a tool that makes installing and managing Node modules — it’s quite easy to add many useful tools to your web development toolkit. In a previous article, I wrote about how to install Node.js® and, it’s companion, NPM on a Mac. Fortunately, for Windows users, the Node.js® installation process is a lot easier than how I recommend installing Node.js® on a Mac.
