How to Record Video of an App in Windows 10

https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/how-to-video-screen-capture-windows-10

Saved by uncleflo on February 23rd, 2019.

Did you know Windows 10 has a hidden screen recording utility? With it, you can record a video of your actions in just about any Windows app, whether it's you want to capture gameplay or create a tutorial for someone on using Microsoft Office. Here's how it works. The new video recording tool is part of the Xbox app that comes installed by default in Windows 10. It's really easy to use and although it isn't as feature rich as dedicated video and screen capture tools like Snagit or Camtasia, it is free and great for quick and dirty screen recording.

Saved by uncleflo on October 23rd, 2018.

iPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. It supports tuning of various parameters related to timing, buffers and protocols (TCP, UDP, SCTP with IPv4 and IPv6). For each test it reports the bandwidth, loss, and other parameters. This is a new implementation that shares no code with the original iPerf and also is not backwards compatible. iPerf was orginally developed by NLANR/DAST. iPerf3 is principally developed by ESnet / Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. It is released under a three-clause BSD license.

GNU gettext utilities

https://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/gettext.html#Why

Saved by uncleflo on June 29th, 2018.

Usually, programs are written and documented in English, and use English at execution time to interact with users. This is true not only of GNU software, but also of a great deal of proprietary and free software. Using a common language is quite handy for communication between developers, maintainers and users from all countries. On the other hand, most people are less comfortable with English than with their own native language, and would prefer to use their mother tongue for day to day’s work, as far as possible. Many would simply love to see their computer screen showing a lot less of English, and far more of their own language. However, to many people, this dream might appear so far fetched that they may believe it is not even worth spending time thinking about it. They have no confidence at all that the dream might ever become true. Yet some have not lost hope, and have organized themselves. The Translation Project is a formalization of this hope into a workable structure, which has a good chance to get all of us nearer the achievement of a truly multi-lingual set of programs. GNU gettext is an important step for the Translation Project, as it is an asset on which we may build many other steps. This package offers to programmers, translators and even users, a well integrated set of tools and documentation. Specifically, the GNU gettext utilities are a set of tools that provides a framework within which other free packages may produce multi-lingual messages.

You Might Not Need jQuery

http://youmightnotneedjquery.com/

Saved by uncleflo on May 9th, 2018.

jQuery and its cousins are great, and by all means use them if it makes it easier to develop your application. If you're developing a library on the other hand, please take a moment to consider if you actually need jQuery as a dependency. Maybe you can include a few lines of utility code, and forgo the requirement. If you're only targeting more modern browsers, you might not need anything more than what the browser ships with. At the very least, make sure you know what jQuery is doing for you, and what it's not. Some developers believe that jQuery is protecting us from a great demon of browser incompatibility when, in truth, post-IE8, browsers are pretty easy to deal with on their own.

Official Themes from Bootstrap's creators. Customize and extend the world's most popular front-end framework. Themes built as frameworks: Each theme was designed as its own extended version of Bootstrap, built for a specific set of problems—dashboards, web apps, or marketing pages. To do this we've not only extended many of your favorite parts of Bootstrap, but also introduced dozens of completely new utilities, components, and plugins. Components and examples: Each theme features new components built to the same level of quality as Bootstrap and highlighted with several example pages. Tons of variables: Theme components inherit much of their style from variables, exactly like Bootstrap. Change a few values and the theme adapts. Source files and tools: Each Bootstrap theme includes all the source and compiled files you'll need, including npm and Gulp based build tools. From the Bootstrap Team: Bootstrap Themes are built by the team who created Bootstrap itself. We're also responsible for Skeleton, Ratchet, and the front-end architecture for companies like Twitter, GitHub, Medium, and others.

YouGetSignal.com is a collection of network tools that I started working on in late September of 2007. The name of the site, YouGetSignal, is a nerdy play on a line of broken English from the infamous "All your base are belong to us" cut scene. YouGetSignal originally started as an effort of mine to learn the latest web development techniques. Consequently, the site employs several technologies to function.

StereoVision: Library and utilities for 3d reconstruction from stereo cameras — StereoVision 1.0.0 documentation

http://erget.github.io/StereoVision/index.html

Saved by uncleflo on February 8th, 2015.

StereoVision is a package for working with stereo cameras, especially with the intent of using them to produce 3D point clouds. The focus is on performance, ease of usability, and the ability to construct 3D imaging setups cheaply. For more information, see the Sphinx autodocumentation, built with the Makefile included in doc. StereoVision relies heavily on OpenCV. If you’re not sure about what a given variable does or what values would make sense for it and no explanation is provided in the StereoVision documentation, refer to OpenCV’s documentation in order to better understand how they work.

Handling Unicode Front to Back in a Web App

Understanding encoding is all fine and good, but there are many gotchas involved in actually building a complex system consisting of many moving parts that uses anything but ASCII characters. This article shows how to get a PHP web application with a MySQL database set up to handle UTF-8 data front to back and explains common pitfalls.

JavaScript loaders are incredibly powerful and useful utilities. I've even covered a few of them on this blog, like curljs and LABjs, and have used RequireJS and the Dojo loader on personal projects. They're super powerful but can be overkill in some cases. If you're using jQuery, there's a built in method for loading a single script which may come in handy if you'd like to lazy load a plugin or any other type of script. Here's how to use it!

deparam function in JavaScript - opposite of $.param

https://coderwall.com/p/quv2zq/deparam-function-in-javascript-opposite-of-param

Saved by uncleflo on December 7th, 2014.

Often in Javascript you want to parameterize a map (hash|dictionary|whatever) to create a URL string, and jQuery has the utility function $.param to help you do so. But what happens when you want the reverse? jQuery doesn't have a "deparam" function. I bet other utility libraries do, and are probably more robust, but it's fun to write your own.

filesystems - recovering ext4 partition after dd'ing over start of HD - Unix & Linux Stack Exchange

http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/46914/recovering-ext4-partition-after-dding-over-start-of-hd?s=3b3d8f577c8d415290eccb47b3cb923d

Saved by uncleflo on August 9th, 2014.

I accidentally used dd and wrote over the first 208MB of my external disk. What I wrote over is a partition on its own (Debian nestinstaller) so what I see now is not my old (now damaged) ext4 partition but another smaller partition. This limits the tools and advices I could follow. My plan was to recreate the partition table with testdisk and then fix everything with the backup superblocks as described here. I'd lose the first 208MB but that's ok compared to the other 300GB of data in there. Something like the following:

Kpartx: a tool for mounting partitions within an image file | Robert Penz Blog

http://robert.penz.name/73/kpartx-a-tool-for-mounting-partitions-within-an-image-file/

Kpartx can be used to set up device mappings for the partitions of any partitioned block device. It is part of the Linux multipath-tools. With kpartx -l imagefile you get an overview of the partitions in the image file and with kpartx -a imagefile the partitions will accessible via /dev/mapper/loop0pX (X is the number of the partition). You can mount it now with mount /dev/mapper/loop0pX /mnt/ -o loop,ro. After unmounting you can disconnect the mapper devices with kpartx -d imagefile.

This small tool allows the user to graphically examine ddrescue's log files in a user friendly GUI application. The Main window displays a block grid with each block's color representing the block types it contains. Many people know this type of view from defragmentation programs. The program is written in Object Pascal using the Lazarus IDE. It can be compiled to run on Windows, GNU/Linux and probably OS X, too. The downloads include binaries for the respective target platform and the project files (source code).

partitioning - How to recover partially formatted ext4 partition (testdisk did not help) - Ask Ubuntu

http://askubuntu.com/questions/337541/how-to-recover-partially-formatted-ext4-partition-testdisk-did-not-help

Saved by uncleflo on August 9th, 2014.

I have а 2TB "single ext4-formatted partition" HDD. Recently, while working under Windows 7 on the same machine, I have damaged the aforementioned partition. What happened is that while I was trying to recover external USB drive I opened standard windows disk-management tool and it prompted me if I want to make disk1 "active". At that moment I didn't realize that "disk1" is not my USB disk, but the ext4 internal disk. After clicking OK, windows has created 100 MB "system reserved partition" on the disk and left the rest untouched..?

extundelete: An ext3 and ext4 file undeletion utility

http://extundelete.sourceforge.net/

Saved by uncleflo on August 9th, 2014.

extundelete is a utility that can recover deleted files from an ext3 or ext4 partition. The ext3 and ext4 file systems are the most common default file systems in Linux distributions like Mint, Mageia, or Ubuntu. extundelete uses information stored in the partition's journal to attempt to recover a file that has been deleted from the partition. There is no guarantee that any particular file will be able to be undeleted, so always try to have a good backup system in place, or at least put one in place after recovering your files!
