Geothermal pile foundations - Designing Buildings Wiki

https://www.designingbuildings.co.uk/wiki/Geothermal_pile_foundations

Saved by uncleflo on December 18th, 2019.

Geothermal energy is the second most abundant source of heat on earth, after solar energy. It is the natural heat energy stored in the earth. This energy is contained in about 260 billion cubic metres of rocks and metallic alloys, just below the outer surface of the earth, that are at or near their melting points (Lanterman & Lee, 2007). Calculations show that the Earth, originating from a completely molten state, would have cooled and become completely solid if the only energy input was that of the Sun, so it is believed that the ultimate source of geothermal energy is the decay of naturally radioactive isotopes (Dincer et al., 2007). The thermal energy from the earth continuously flows outwards. This heat transfer from the core to the surrounding mantle is principally via conduction. When the temperature and pressure of the system becomes high enough, some of the rocks that make up the mantle melt and form magma. As the liquid magma is less dense than surrounding rocks, it slowly rises, convecting thermal heat towards the earth’s crust (Lanterman & Lee, 2007).

Netcat – a couple of useful examples

https://www.g-loaded.eu/2006/11/06/netcat-a-couple-of-useful-examples/

Saved by uncleflo on June 27th, 2017.

One of the Linux command line tools I had initially under-estimated is netcat or just nc. By default, netcat creates a TCP socket either in listening mode (server socket) or a socket that is used in order to connect to a server (client mode). Actually, netcat does not care whether the socket is meant to be a server or a client. All it does is to take the data from stdin and transfer it to the other end across the network. The simplest example of its usage is to create a server-client chat system. Although this is a very primitive way to chat, it shows how netcat works. In the following examples it is assumed that the machine that creates the listening socket (server) has the 192.168.0.1 IP address. So, create the chat server on this machine and set it to listen to 3333 TCP port

PHP transfer data between 2 remote servers, what is fastest way?

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8442150/php-transfer-data-between-2-remote-servers-what-is-fastest-way

Saved by uncleflo on December 2nd, 2016.

I have Server A and Server B which exchanges some data. Server A on user request pull data from Server B using simple file_get_content with some params, so server B can do all task(database etc) and return results to A which formats and show to user. Everything is in PHP. Now I am interested what is fastest way to to this? I made some test and average transfer time for average response from server B at (~0.2 sec). In that 0.2 sec, 0.1 sec. aprox. is Server B operational time (pulling data calling few databases etc) what mean that average transfer time for 50kb with is 0.1 sec. (servers are NOT in same network) Should I try with: 1.cURL insted of file_get_content ? 2.Or to try to make whole thing with sockets( I never work work with sockets in PHP but I supose that easily can be done, on that way to skip web server )? 3.or something third?

The HTTP OPTIONS method and potential for self-describing RESTful APIs

http://zacstewart.com/2012/04/14/http-options-method.html

Saved by uncleflo on December 2nd, 2016.

The OPTIONS method is a somewhat obscure part of the HTTP standard that could be used today with a strong impact on the interconnectedness of the interwebs while requiring minimal effort. It's role is well defined in RFC2616, yet no web services that I can find are taking advantage of it. What is the HTTP OPTIONS method? To quote the spec: This method allows the client to determine the options and/or requirements associated with a resource, or the capabilities of a server, without implying a resource action or initiating a resource retrieval. Minimally, the response should be a 200 OK and have an Allow header with a list of HTTP methods that may be used on this resource. As an authorized user on an API, if you were to request OPTIONS /users/me, you should receive something like...

This article explains how to copy the files to a new profile, lists important files in the profile and describes what information is stored in these files. If you are having a problem with Firefox then sometimes, rather than trying to find and fix the exact cause of the problem, it is easier just to make a new Firefox profile and copy your most important data over to it. The amendment and extension of the Mutual Defence Agreement, which was first signed in 1958, is fundamental to the replacement of the Trident nuclear weapons system: allowing for the transfer of information relating to nuclear technology and US-UK collaboration over their nuclear weapons programmes. Yet the British Government has not only denied Parliament the opportunity to discuss it, it will not even disclose the content of the agreement.

Transfer Money Online | Send Money Abroad with TransferWise

https://transferwise.com/

Saved by uncleflo on June 3rd, 2014.

The clever new way to beat bank fees. Banks charge huge hidden fees when you send money abroad. Now you can avoid them completely. Problem solved. Sending money abroad is deceptively expensive, thanks to the hidden fees we’ve all been forced to pay. The banks claim “free money transfers”, “0% commission.” Sounds like money’s already flowing freely, but far from it. It’s pure propaganda. TransferWise removes all the wrongness, letting people send money abroad at the lowest possible true cost. Using only real exchange rates and tiny not-hidden-fees. Headaches averted, and a revolution sparked.

For a lot of people the choice of the Mail Transfer Agent is important. A bad choice can mean lost time and money, lower reliability and increased risk to networks. A good choice can, depending on the architecture of your mail system, remain substantially unchanged for years. If you're designing a major mail system then you're also going to be asking yourself the question should I use more than one kind of MTA, and if so which should go where? Hopefully this article can help.

It's easy to bring your number across to giffgaff - that way your friends will still know how to get hold of you! Provided you have fulfilled any contractual agreement you may have with your current Service Provider you can request a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) from them. If you want a PAC before your minimum contract term is over, you might need to pay a fee; typically that'd be your remaining line rental.
