Lens Tests: A Simple Method

http://www.zen20934.zen.co.uk/photography/LensTests/simplemethod.htm

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

This is a simplified subjective method of testing lenses optical sharpness. This should not be confused with tests for focus accuracy and discrimination in a 3D environment, that is a totally different issue although often confused by the inexperienced. A focus accuracy test is suggested here Focus Test. The advantage over this method, compared to just taking a shot of a garden etc, is elimination of variables such as subject and camera movement, insufficient depth of field, flatness of field and variations in focus location. It uses a nice consistent high contrast subject to make comparisons easy; checking sharpness on general photographic views is not very easy. As the method is subjective, it is worth testing against a known good lens for comparison.

ISO 12233 Test Chart

https://stephen-westin.com/misc/res-chart.html

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

In 2000, the International Standards Organization adopted ISO Standard 12233: Photography -- Electronic still-picture cameras - Resolution measurements for the measurement of camera resolution. This standard is protected by copyright, but the design of the associated test chart seems not to be protected; its description has been available on the Web in an Excel spreadsheet. I have semi-manually converted this to an Adobe Illustrator file which is displayed here. In 2014 and again in 2017, the ISO revised the standard and the chart below was replaced by several new ones. Those new charts are not available here. In principle, you should be able to print this chart and perform resolution tests on your camera. The reality isn't that simple; there are lots of subtleties having to do with focus distance, quality and contrast of your printer, evenness of illumination, surface reflections, etc.

ISO 12233 — Resolution and spatial frequency responses | imatest

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

This new standard defines three test charts. The new Imatest eSFR ISO module performs a highly automated analysis of the new low contrast (4:1) Edge SFR chart and is available in Imatest Master and Image Sensor 4.0. This chart does not work with the highly automated Imatest eSFR ISO module, described below. For highly automated measurements (including squares near the corners, color patches, and wedges) we recommend one of the Imatest eSFR ISO charts shown below. These charts are fully compliant with ISO 12233:2017. Supported by the Imatest Star Chart module. Optional automatic region detection is available when used with a star pattern that has registration marks on the sides of the image.

iPerf - The ultimate speed test tool for TCP, UDP and SCTP

https://iperf.fr/

Saved by uncleflo on October 23rd, 2018.

iPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. It supports tuning of various parameters related to timing, buffers and protocols (TCP, UDP, SCTP with IPv4 and IPv6). For each test it reports the bandwidth, loss, and other parameters. This is a new implementation that shares no code with the original iPerf and also is not backwards compatible. iPerf was orginally developed by NLANR/DAST. iPerf3 is principally developed by ESnet / Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. It is released under a three-clause BSD license.

ALS booth The ALS Association’s booth at the Society for Neuroscience 2004 show Information about progress on ALS proved to be an important highlight of the 2004 meeting of The Society for Neuroscience, including reports by ALSA-funded investigators worldwide. News included gene therapy developments, stem cell research, RNA silencing, and evidence for processes underlying ALS that could point the way to new therapies. The 25,000 scientists gathered in San Diego learned about ALS by choosing among two slide sessions and several different poster sessions detailing the many different approaches underway in ALS research. Several ALSA-funded investigators notably reported on tests with a variety of compounds in animals, emphasizing ALSA’s efforts in translational research. The amount of research presented on ALS after a decade of focused attention translated into a sizeable chunk of the meeting. ALSA’s science director Lucie Bruijn, Ph.D., said, “It is encouraging to see so many invest
