Wordpress Development - Validating Sanitizing and Escaping User Data

Saved by uncleflo on June 18th, 2019.

Your code works, but is it safe? When writing code that will run across hundreds if not thousands of websites, you should be extra cautious of how you handle data coming into WordPress and how it's then presented to the end user. This commonly comes up when building a settings page for your theme, creating and manipulating shortcodes, or saving and rendering extra data associated with a post.

A successful Git branching model

Saved by uncleflo on June 29th, 2018.

In this post I present the development model that I’ve introduced for some of my projects (both at work and private) about a year ago, and which has turned out to be very successful. I’ve been meaning to write about it for a while now, but I’ve never really found the time to do so thoroughly, until now. I won’t talk about any of the projects’ details, merely about the branching strategy and release management.

MariaDB High Availability: Replication Manager

Saved by uncleflo on February 25th, 2018.

This is a follow-up blog post that expands on the subject of highly available cluster, discussed in MariaDB MaxScale High Availability: Active-Standby Cluster. Replication Manager is a tool that manages MariaDB 10 clusters. It supports both interactive and automated failover of the master server. It verifies the integrity of the slave servers before promoting one of them as the replacement master and it also protects the slaves by automatically setting them into read-only mode. You can find more information on the replication-manager from the replication-manager GitHub repository. Using Replication Manager allows us to automate the replication failover. This reduces the amount of manual work required to adapt to changes in the cluster topology and makes for a more highly available database cluster. In this blog post, we'll cover the topic of backend database HA and we’ll use Replication Manager to create a complete HA solution. We build on the setup described in the earlier blog post and integrate Replication Manager into it. We're using Centos 7 as our OS and we'll use the 0.7.0-rc2 version of the replication-manager.

OAuth 2 Simplified

Saved by uncleflo on July 10th, 2017.

This post describes OAuth 2.0 in a simplified format to help developers and service providers implement the protocol. The OAuth 2 spec can be a bit confusing to read, so I've written this post to help describe the terminology in a simplified format. The core spec leaves many decisions up to the implementer, often based on security tradeoffs of the implementation. Instead of describing all possible decisions that need to be made to successfully implement OAuth 2, this post makes decisions that are appropriate for most implementations.

Accessing Incoming PUT Data from PHP

Saved by uncleflo on December 2nd, 2016.

Recently I started writing a REST service. I began in the usual way, writing a php script, calling it with a GET request, accessing the variables using the PHP superglobal variable $_GET. I wrote code to handle a POST request and used the variables I found in $_POST. Then I tried to write a PUT request. PHP doesn't have a built-in way to do this, and at first I was a little confused as to how I could reach this information. It turns out that this can be read from the incoming stream to PHP, php://input.

Do I need a UPC/EAN Barcode Number? | UK Business Forums

Saved by uncleflo on April 6th, 2015.

Hope this post is useful for people out here on this forum. As a small business owner and find GS1/UCC a complete rip off by charging $750 + annual fees for upc codes! I would rather save those $$$ and use it more effectively in marketing and advertising my products. I found another alternative to buy upc codes for cheap - just google the term 'upc code' or 'ean code' and you should see a list of so many different sites trying to sell upc codes from $4.99 to $120 - some with and most without any annual or set-up/registration fees.

Davide Gironi: A simple brushless sensorless motor driver for AVR Atmega

Saved by uncleflo on July 17th, 2014.

Brushless electric motor (BLDC motors) are synchronous motors that are powered by a DC electric source via an integrated inverter/switching power supply, which produces an AC electric signal to drive the motor. For an introduction to BLDC motors, please look at my sensored motor driver post, here: http://davidegironi.blogspot.it/2013/09/a-simple-brushless-sensored-motor.html For this project, I've implemented a simple brushless sensoreless motor driver for AVR Atmega. The code i propose it's not perfect, and can be improved, but for the needs i had it works.

Jquery - How to make $.post() use contentType=application/json? - Stack Overflow

Saved by uncleflo on January 24th, 2014.

I've noticed that when using $.post() in jquery that the default contentType is application/x-www-form-urlencoded - when my asp.net mvc code needs to have contentType=application/json

(See this question for why I must use application/json: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2792603/aspnet-mvc-why-is-modelstate-isvalid-false-the-x-field-is-required-when-that)

How can I make $.post() send contentType=application/json? I already have a large number of $.post() functions, so I don't want to change to $.ajax() because it would take too much time

How to add CoverFlow Effect on your iPhone App – OpenFlow ‹ ObjectGraph Blog

Saved by uncleflo on May 16th, 2013.

The main criteria of this post is to help you add a cool effect called the “cover flow/open flow” effect to any of your iphone apps. This is cool in two ways actually. One it adds animation kind of effect to your app and the other, its very easy to build too. I got to learn about this effect when I was working on my “pianos” app where in i’ll have bunch of animals to select which would be displayed as a menu using this “cover flow” effect. Once a particular animal is selected your piano view for that animal comes up. My piano app will be out soon and you can check that out. The source for this post is the link displayed below.

By using rule templates, rewrite maps, .NET providers, and other functionality integrated into IIS Manager, Web administrators can easily set up rules to define URL rewriting behavior based on HTTP headers, HTTP response or request headers, IIS server variables, and even complex programmatic rules. In addition, Web administrators can perform redirects, send custom responses, or stop HTTP requests based on the logic expressed in the rewrite rules.
