NFS - which ports to open? - Storage - Discussions

https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/289912-nfs-which-ports-to-open/

Saved by uncleflo on December 23rd, 2018.

No problem connecting to NFS with firewalls disabled, but even with TCPView it's not obvious which ports require opening.
We've opened port 2049 for both UDP and TCP and all seems well, but there's a selection of ports mentioned across the web for NFS. So with XenServer just 2049? Sharing filesystems by NFS: Regardless of which choice is made for ID mapping you will need to adjust any firewall the system is using so that NFS clients can communicate with the server. You will need to ensure that the following ports are open before sharing any filesystem: UDP: 111, 1039, 1047, 1048 and 2049. TCP: 111, 1039, 1047, 1048 and 2049. See _this article_ Tobias

Check listening ports with netstat

https://support.rackspace.com/how-to/checking-listening-ports-with-netstat/

Saved by uncleflo on January 27th, 2017.

If you’re troubleshooting a service that you know is running normally the next step is to ensure it’s listening on the correct network port. The netstat command shows the services listening to ports on a Linux server and the details of any connections currently made to them. The connection details to consider during basic network daemon troubleshooting are the addresses that the daemon is listening on (including the port number), the daemon’s process identifier (PID), and the program name.

How Can I Tell What is Listening on a TCP/IP Port in Windows?

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28609/how-can-i-tell-what-is-listening-on-a-tcpip-port-in-windows/

Saved by uncleflo on January 27th, 2017.

Whenever an application wants to make itself accessible over the network, it claims a TCP/IP port, which means that port can’t be used by anything else. So if you need to use an in-use port, how do you tell what application is holding it? There’s a number of ways to tell what application has the port locked, but we’ll walk through the built-in way using the command line and Task Manager, and then a great freeware application that does it all in one utility.

Saved by uncleflo on October 14th, 2016.

eZ Server Monitor (eSM) is a script for monitoring Linux servers. It is available in Bash version and Web application. In its Web version, eSM is a PHP script which provides a web page containing information such as the operating system, the number of users connected to the server, the system load, CPU, memory RAM, available disk space, bandwidth usage, and especially the port monitoring services such as FTP, SMTP, Web, etc ... Very simple and easy to install, eSM`Web is also very light. The goal of eZ Server Monitor is to be very easy to install and configure (no specific packages to install) but also to be nice and easy to use! The goal is absolutely not to create heavy and complex software to use. A configuration file allows you to customize various modules.

Some our codecs have same problem. They recieve outbound calls from numbers "100" and "101". And if look clother this calls cominf from the same white IP address as address of codecs. So it means codecs calls by itself. And this call repeats too often last time(approximetly 30 times per day)

OpenSSH (or Secure SHell) has become a de facto standard for remote access replacing the telnet protocol. SSH has made protocols such as telnet redundant due, in most part, to the fact that the connection is encrypted and passwords are no longer sent in plain text for all to see. However, a default installation of ssh isn't perfect, and when running an ssh server there are a few simple steps that can dramatically harden an installation.

You will need to open port 3306 TCP in the Windows firewall or any third party firewall for all software so it can communicate with MySQL. The server should have port 3306 TCP open both inbound and outbound (if using Windows 7 or higher)
On the server you should open port 3306 TCP .......on the workstations you should allow the applications through the firewall.

Samba is somewhat tricky to setup on CentOS due to both the firewall (iptables) and SELinux protection. This is actually a good thing, security is very important, but to get Samba to communicate outside the server we have to do some work and get some understanding as well.
