An Introduction to Lean Canvas – Steve Mullen – Medium

https://medium.com/@steve_mullen/an-introduction-to-lean-canvas-5c17c469d3e0

Saved by uncleflo on January 4th, 2019.

As an entrepreneur, one of the most important tasks you can perform is getting your idea(s) out from your head into a tangible format so that you can communicate that with others. In the past, this usually meant a well-researched business plan, that would usually take weeks (more like months) to create. I turn to the Lean Canvas to help me quickly formulate possible business models, product launches, campaigns and variations of, and communicate this with my stakeholders for my Lead Flow Method work. Having the Lean Canvas as a visual guide made this part “communicating the model/idea” so much more effective — and I think the most valuable function of the tool. The problem with business plans for startups & entrepreneurs are that they’re a waste of time, don’t get me wrong a well-researched business plan is important but only at the right stage of your business (usually when you’re in growth/investment). This quote from Steve Blank sums up this point in case: “Business Plan: a document investors make you write, that they don’t read”. The key fundamental to Lean methodology is the elimination of waste — this includes time, processes, inventory and more. So as a lean startup you need a quicker way to get ideas out of your head, you need to stay lean & avoid waste — so, it’s time to introduce Lean Canvas.

Torsen differential, how does it work

https://learnengineering.org/torsen-differential-how-does-it-work/

Saved by uncleflo on November 28th, 2018.

Torsen is a trade mark of the JTEKT Corporation. The Torsen differential has many patented components and, is the most unique and ingenious method of providing differential action while overcoming the traction difference problem. This article gives a logical introduction to the working of Torsen differential. If you are familiar with the other common technologies used to overcome the traction difference problem, you might have noticed a great advantage of the Torsen. While the other technologies allow the drive wheel to slip for a limited amount of time before it gets locked, in Torsen the locking action is instantaneous. That means as soon as the vehicle encounters a traction difference track the wheels will get locked. They are also compact compared to their counter parts.

Monetra PHP API Developer Reference

https://www.monetra.com/docs/developer/Monetra_PHP_guide_v5.2.pdf

Saved by uncleflo on September 14th, 2018.

The Monetra (MCVE) PHP API, which depends on libmonetra (C API), is designed to take advantage of all three of our "supported” communication methods, which include Drop-File, Unencrypted IP and Encrypted IP (SSL v3/TLS v1.0). Each method has its advantages and will be explained briefly below. Libmonetra is also the basis of the Perl, PHP and JAVA JNI modules, so the usage of those API's is nearly identical to Libmonetra itself, minus language semantics. In addition, this API was designed to be fully thread-safe and allows interleaving of transactions (streaming of transactions with out-of-order responses). The Drop-File communication method is the most simplistic form of communication with Monetra. A transaction directory is specified where .trn (transaction) files are written, "picked up" and .rtn (response) files are written in reply. Advantages are the debug-ability and the fact that it does not require an IP stack to be present on the local machine. Although this method is not designed for networking, it is possible to share the transaction directory via NFS or SAMBA (for windows), to integrate with legacy applications. Because of security concerns, this should not be utilized for new integrations. Newer monetra releases also support client certificate validation which is available in this API. For any feature/anomaly, requests or support questions regarding libmonetra, feel free to contact our support staff via e-mail at support@mainstreetsoftworks.com

MySQL EXPLAIN Output Format

https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/explain-output.html

Saved by uncleflo on April 18th, 2018.

The EXPLAIN statement provides information about how MySQL executes statements. EXPLAIN works with SELECT, DELETE, INSERT, REPLACE, and UPDATE statements. EXPLAIN returns a row of information for each table used in the SELECT statement. It lists the tables in the output in the order that MySQL would read them while processing the statement. MySQL resolves all joins using a nested-loop join method. This means that MySQL reads a row from the first table, and then finds a matching row in the second table, the third table, and so on. When all tables are processed, MySQL outputs the selected columns and backtracks through the table list until a table is found for which there are more matching rows. The next row is read from this table and the process continues with the next table.

Removing Elements from JavaScript Arrays

Saved by uncleflo on April 7th, 2018.

The JavaScript standard library is notoriously small. In fact, it is so small that the Array prototype doesn't even define a method for removing a specific element from an array. Because there's no such built-in method, developers have to create their own version if they want to remove a specific array element.

There is a very clever technique by Alexey Ten on providing an image fallback for SVG going around the internet recently. It does just what you want in the classic no-SVG-support browsers IE 8- and Android 2.3. If we dig a little deeper we find a some pretty interesting stuff including a bit of unexpected behavior that is a bit of a bummer.

Functions are objects in JavaScript, as you should know by now, if you have read any of the prerequisite articles. And as objects, functions have methods, including the powerful Apply, Call, and Bind methods. On the one hand, Apply and Call are nearly identical and are frequently used in JavaScript for borrowing methods and for setting the this value explicitly. We also use Apply for variable-arity functions; you will learn more about this in a bit.

I have built this carbon composite MTB frame four years ago using simple building method which is described in this Instructable. Of course, this method is not suitable for mass production, but if you plan to build just one or two frames for yourself, it is sufficient and you can build your own frame of a high quality. The feeling of riding a self-made frame is great! After years of riding, the frame is still okay and I am still alive too, although I prefer riding my bike equipped by the bamboo/carbon frame, which I have built using the same method described here. Until now, several frames have been built by this method in the world.

They help form a common visual language between the designers and the stakeholders and provide a catalyst for discussions around the preferences and goals of the client. Style Tiles are similar to the paint chips and fabric swatches an interior designer gets approval on before designing a room.
An interior designer doesn't design three different rooms for a client at the first kick-off meeting, so why do Web designers design three different webpage mockups?

Atomic Design | Brad Frost Web

Saved by uncleflo on July 16th, 2014.

As the craft of Web design continues to evolve, we’re recognizing the need to develop thoughtful design systems, rather than creating simple collections of web pages. A lot has been said about creating design systems, and much of it focuses on establishing foundations for color, typography, grids, texture and the like. This type of thinking is certainly important, but I’m slightly less interested in these aspects of design because ultimately they are and will always be subjective. Lately I’ve been more interested in what our interfaces are comprised of and how we can construct design systems in a more methodical way.

A promise represents the eventual result of an asynchronous operation. The primary way of interacting with a promise is through its then method, which registers callbacks to receive either a promise's eventual value or the reason why the promise cannot be fulfilled. This specification details the behavior of the then method, providing an interoperable base which all Promises/A+ conformant promise implementations can be depended on to provide. As such, the specification should be considered very stable. Although the Promises/A+ organization may occasionally revise this specification with minor backward-compatible changes to address newly-discovered corner cases, we will integrate large or backward-incompatible only after careful consideration, discussion, and testing.
