How do I allow MySQL connections through SELinux? - Server Fault

https://serverfault.com/questions/240015/how-do-i-allow-mysql-connections-through-selinux

Saved by uncleflo on July 11th, 2019.

I'd like to for once leave SELinux running on a server for the alleged increased security. I usually disable SELinux to get anything to work. How do I tell SELinux to allow MySQL connections? The most I've found in the documentation is this line from mysql.com: If you are running under Linux and Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is enabled, make sure you have disabled SELinux protection for the mysqld process.

How are you guys handling QA environments on AWS? : aws

https://www.reddit.com/r/aws/comments/9hhxiv/how_are_you_guys_handling_qa_environments_on_aws/

Saved by uncleflo on July 11th, 2019.

News, articles and tools covering Amazon Web Services (AWS), including S3, EC2, SQS, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, CloudFormation, Route 53, CloudFront, Lambda, VPC, Cloudwatch, Glacier and more. Just a curiosity. At this point I've done: single staging environment for small teams, and that obviously doesn't work well beyond a couple; one off EC2 instances that just use docker to make a mini-replicated environment; cloudformation to spin up an entire, and yet smaller, version of our production; ngrok and just having our QA test directly. The area I'm interested to see how people are handling it is with respect to data. Are you replicating the full DB? Just using in memory and some seed data? Additionally, for those of you that have this (or have had one in the past), how did you guys set it up to be "pleasurable" to work with? By that I mean it not being some long winding rube goldberg machine that almost defeats the purpose of having a CI.

Sass: Variables

https://sass-lang.com/documentation/variables

Saved by uncleflo on July 10th, 2019.

Sass variables are simple: you assign a value to a name that begins with $, and then you can refer to that name instead of the value itself. But despite their simplicity, they're one of the most useful tools Sass brings to the table. Variables make it possible to reduce repetition, do complex math, configure libraries, and much more. A variable declaration looks a lot like a property declaration: it’s written <variable>: <expression>. Unlike a property, which can only be declared in a style rule or at-rule, variables can be declared anywhere you want. To use a variable, just include it in a value.

Working with Amazon Aurora Global Database - Amazon Aurora

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraUserGuide/aurora-global-database.html

Saved by uncleflo on June 23rd, 2019.

Following, you can find a description of Amazon Aurora Global Database. Each Aurora global database spans multiple AWS Regions, enabling low latency global reads and disaster recovery from region-wide outages. An Aurora global database consists of one primary AWS Region where your data is mastered, and one read-only, secondary AWS Region. Aurora replicates data to the secondary AWS Region with typical latency of under a second. You issue write operations directly to the primary DB instance in the primary AWS Region. An Aurora global database uses dedicated infrastructure to replicate your data, leaving database resources available entirely to serve application workloads. Applications with a worldwide footprint can use reader instances in the secondary AWS Region for low latency reads. In the unlikely event your database becomes degraded or isolated in an AWS region, you can promote the secondary AWS Region to take full read-write workloads in under a minute.

AWS - How to redirect database traffic to a new master on RDS after promoting a read replica? - Server Fault

https://serverfault.com/questions/780605/how-to-redirect-database-traffic-to-a-new-master-on-rds-after-promoting-a-read-r

Saved by uncleflo on June 23rd, 2019.

A lot of RDS's documentation about read replicas contains a magical step along the lines of "direct database traffic to the new master." For instance, their instructions on implementing failure recovery say: This talk about directing traffic glosses over what is actually a complicated step, though. If I were using EC2 instances to host my database, I could give them elastic IPs, use the public DNS address of the instance to address it (which resolves to its private IP from inside AWS), and then instantly swap my entire stack to the read replica by reassigning the elastic IP (and thus simultaneously reassigning the public DNS). I used this method happily back in the days when RDS was considered straightforwardly inferior to rolling your own database instance on EC2 by many DBAs. RDS instances still cannot have elastic IPs, though, so I cannot use this particular trick to magically redirect all my database traffic to a new instance when using RDS.

Cube in a cube / Turners cube - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw3GzqgWg-8

Saved by uncleflo on June 23rd, 2019.

I've made several of these Turners Cubes over the years when I was in the US Air Force, most of the time to teach younger Airmen that you could square a part in a lathe using a 4 jaw chuck. I never used a holding ring nor did I use the hot glue. Each cube was cut from the inside one to the outer one. Sometimes we would heat the cube and freeze a steel ball from a bearing and drop it into the center cube, when everything went back to room temp the steel ball was captured in the smallest cube. This was also a way to teach new guys coming in to a machine shop to think outside of the box to come up with ways to machine parts. You have to understand, that back in the 1970's and in to the late 80's or 90's most of our shops were still using machinery dating back to WWII and we didn't have a lot of tooling like downtown shops or factories had. So we had to come up with ways to use the tooling on hand and make tooling that would work to fix and or make parts for aircraft. It was a real learning experience during those times.

Pat Delany’s Open Source Machine Tools project is featured in Make Magazine #37! Our goal, simply stated: to help anyone, anywhere, build almost anything, using the stuff that’s already around them. We make essential machine tools — what people use to create essentially every manufactured item in our world — affordable to build with materials available in villages and urban slums everywhere, using open-source plans. This project is bottom-up rather than top-down: we want to help local artisans change their lives, their communities and their local economies. Learn more about our history and the idea of do-it-yourself global development, read the key documents behind our plans, get involved in this open source project, or click on any of the specific projects listed below. A re-discovered way to quickly make inexpensive but accurate machine tools for use in developing countries and in trade schools and shops everywhere. Learning how to write unit tests for your code will make you write better code. With automated tests, you can find bugs more easily, and if you break something you'll notice straight away. Many experienced developers write unit tests for their code. It's a repeatable way of checking that the code works as intended, and also serves as documentation. Many popular PHP projects are unit tested, such as WordPress and Moodle, and if you use frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony, these provide tight integration with the PHPUnit testing framework.

Safety Update: If the cells have a voltage difference of more than .2 of a volt (example: one cell is 2.7 volts, and another cell is 3.5 volts), you should not parallel connect, and instead discharge the higher voltage cell with a 25-50 watt, 1.5-2.7 ohm resistor. Just attach the leads of the resistor to the individual higher voltage cell, and wait till it is at a voltage that is closer to the other cells. When they are within .2 volts of each other, then you can connect them in parallel and allow them to equalize. Another way to do this is to charge the lower voltage cells, but 3 volt chargers are not easy to find, so I would stick to the resistor method. These resistors only cost a dollars each, and you can find them at most electronics supply stores.

sql - MySql : Grant read only options? - Stack Overflow

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/20036547/mysql-grant-read-only-options

Saved by uncleflo on June 23rd, 2019.

Is there a way to group all read operations in grant ? If there is any single privilege that stands for ALL READ operations on database. "Reading" from tables and views is the SELECT privilege. If that's what you mean by "all read" then yes: However, it sounds like you mean an ability to "see" everything, to "look but not touch." So, here are the other kinds of reading that come to mind: "Reading" the definition of views is the SHOW VIEW privilege. "Reading" the list of currently-executing queries by other users is the PROCESS privilege.

PDF - Four or more layer PCB design for beginners using EAGLE

With microcontrollers and other Integrated Circuit (IC)’s getting smaller and smaller Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design gets more and more difficult. 2 layer PCB design is getting common for small companies and hobbyists but 4 layer or more is a bit daring for those used to 2 layers. When designing a circuit with a Ball Grid Array (BGA) that has 100 or more pins a 4 layer circuit board is necessary, but more layers can make designing easier. With prices of 4 layer boards getting lower it can be a better idea to route a board thats hard to do in 2 layers in 4 layers as it can save a lot of time. This document will explain the basics of routing PCBs with 4 or more layers with Cadsoft Eagle.

The intent of this guide is to reduce cognitive friction when scanning code from different authors. It does so by enumerating a shared set of rules and expectations about how to format PHP code. The style rules herein are derived from commonalities among the various member projects. When various authors collaborate across multiple projects, it helps to have one set of guidelines to be used among all those projects. Thus, the benefit of this guide is not in the rules themselves, but in the sharing of those rules.
