This is a simplified subjective method of testing lenses optical sharpness. This should not be confused with tests for focus accuracy and discrimination in a 3D environment, that is a totally different issue although often confused by the inexperienced. A focus accuracy test is suggested here Focus Test. The advantage over this method, compared to just taking a shot of a garden etc, is elimination of variables such as subject and camera movement, insufficient depth of field, flatness of field and variations in focus location. It uses a nice consistent high contrast subject to make comparisons easy; checking sharpness on general photographic views is not very easy. As the method is subjective, it is worth testing against a known good lens for comparison.

Our appetite to create new products and buy new products is infinite. The planet's resources aren't. But it's okay because we can have both: new products and a better environment. Nylon waste from landfills and oceans around the world is transformed into ECONYL® regenerated nylon. It's exactly the same as brand new nylon and can be recycled, recreated and remoulded again and again. That means you can create new products and buy new products without having to use new resources. Papaia Praia was born from a mother and daughter’s dream. A pharmacist and a dentist, both with one will: create a swimwear for the real women. For the Portuguese woman with all the shapes, for the mother running after her children at the beach, for the young woman who wants a delicate and feminine item, for the woman who doesn’t want to show much and the one who likes to show too much. We wanted designs that embodies the reality of every woman not made for cover-models. Because our world, though dreamful, it’s the real world. We created our brand in 2017, almost as a joke, with every item handmade by us in a guestroom turned atelier. A couple of friends’ orders became hundreds of requests from friends of friends and customer all over the country, thus, in March 2018 Papaia Praia was launched, with national production and full dedication to this project. All our items are designed and hand-made in Portugal, with high quality fabrics. We are environmentally conscious, our lycras come from fishermen and plastics found in the ocean, and we work in a controlled and safe environment. We are a Portuguese brand. Designed for Portuguese women. And made in Portugal. All our products are produced with LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™, providing durability 5 to 10 times higher than regular fabric.

Most web applications are changed and adapted quite frequently and quickly. Their environment, for example the size and the behaviour of the user base, are constantly changing. What was sufficient yesterday can be insufficient today. Especially in a web environment it is important to monitor and continuously improve the internal quality not only when developing, but also when maintaining the software. Many of the plugins referenced (right) can be used to integrate with PHP projects, but may first need to be configured the create appropriately formatted files when working with PHP projects.

Habitat is a new project from Chef with the lofty goal of building a packaging system and runtime environment for "automation that travels with the app" to support the needs of modern distributed applications running in microservices environments. Habitat has a lot of features, but today we will only learn enough about plans and packages to build and run a minimal Docker container for Ruby.

StoryMapJS is a free tool to help you tell stories on the web that highlight the locations of a series of events. It is a new tool, yet stable in our development environment, and it has a friendly authoring tool. There are a couple ways you can make a StoryMap. Maps: Add a slide for each place in your story. Setting the location is as easy as a text search for the name, address, or latitude and longitude. You can change the visual style of your map with a few presets, or you can use Mapbox to create your own style. Really big images: You can tell stories with large photographs, works of art, historic maps, and other image files. Because it works best with pixel-dense files, we call these gigapixel. Setting one up requires you to host files on a web server.

You've got your Rails or Rack-based Ruby app built. It's even running in Docker off your laptop and other developers on your team have it up-and-running as well. Everything looks good, so time to ship it. Wait! Not so fast! Transitioning to a Docker production environment isn't quite as easy as it sounds. There's more to it than just shipping your locally built container image into a production environment. Let's examine the 9 most critical decisions you'll face before you can securely deploy your Dockerized Rails and Rack-based Ruby apps into production:

The OSGi Alliance, formerly known as the Open Services Gateway initiative, is an open standards organization founded in March 1999 that originally specified and continues to maintain the OSGi standard. The OSGi specification describes a modular system and a service platform for the Java programming language that implements a complete and dynamic component model, something that does not exist in standalone Java/VM environments. Applications or components, coming in the form of bundles for deployment, can be remotely installed, started, stopped, updated, and uninstalled without requiring a reboot; management of Java packages/classes is specified in great detail. Application life cycle management is implemented via APIs that allow for remote downloading of management policies. The service registry allows bundles to detect the addition of new services, or the removal of services, and adapt accordingly.

The dos and don'ts of fuelling your petrol-saving vehicle. A few years ago, you could venture into some beneficent municipality and find — in the public garage, or the library car lot, or right in the middle of Main Street — a couple of plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging stations. These cities, along with college and corporate campuses, were demonstrating their commitment to preserving the environment, offering free power and prime parking to those citizens who were willing to spend a lot of extra money for a low-range, underpowered, unsexy vehicle. Those charger-augmented spots were often empty, simply because there weren’t enough PEVs on the road to fill them.

The nuclear industry of the 1950s was defined by an inexhaustible optimism and rigorous scientific thinking. Anything was possible, and nuclear energy promised to power the world. Revolutionary designs were prolific. Today, however, this technological diversity has been narrowed, and the industry has become locked into one design: the light water reactor. We’re challenging this strategy and have returned to the beginning to explore another path, and another design – the molten salt reactor. This simple reactor design, updated with modern technology and materials, has the potential to revolutionize the nuclear industry.
