Best codec for game, video and screen recording - Bandicam

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

What is the best video codec for game recording, video recording, and screen recording? If you use a high-compression codec, you can get a small video file, but the encoding speed might be slower. If you use a high-quality codec, you can get the best quality video, but the video file size might be larger. If you use a high-speed codec, you can reduce CPU usage, but the video file size might be larger. So, you have to choose the best video codec by yourself to meet your recording needs.

Comparing x264 “RF” settings in Handbrake (examples) | mattgadient.com

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

Here, I’m taking a look at various RF settings in Handbrake, both in terms of visuals and filesize. I started with encodes from the “24” DVD (Season 6, Episode 1). If you have the same DVD and are looking to reproduce this test, the following settings were used: I tested the following RF values (listed in Handbrake under “Constant Quality”: 0, 10, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 I’ll start with a few screenshots at different RF values. There’s a video below too, but it comes with a bit of a caveat so might not show everything well for you. Pictures should work for nearly everyone. Note that the first one (RF0) is for reference (lossless). Worth noting that x264’s psychovisual enhancements (trellis, etc) do a pretty good job of keeping detail where you’d notice it (the face), at the expense of the stuff you normally wouldn’t notice while watching (like those background areas). Of course, this only goes so far – once the RF value is high enough, there’s no saving Jack’s facial features from the effects of compression!

Test video quality 720p 1080p 1440p 2160p 4320p max bitrate which compresses youtube

Saved by uncleflo on January 6th, 2019.

Youtube video quality and bitrate… What kind of compression does YouTube use? Every time we post a video on Youtube will ALWAYS recompressed. Youtube DO NOT leaves intact the video posted. YouTube, and a few of the other video services, also automatically deliver different video codecs to different platforms like iOS or Windows. Youtube recommends sending videos with high bitrates but after several tests I have verified that it does not change the quality beyond a certain bitrate, it is more important the quality of the source of acquisition rather than the bitrate. How much does Youtube compress video sent? How much the bitrate is allocated to video based on resolutions, youtube will assign a different bitrate to each resolution, and use 2 types of CODEC (H264 and VP9)

UTF-8 all the way through

Saved by uncleflo on May 9th, 2018.

I'm setting up a new server, and want to support UTF-8 fully in my web application. I have tried in the past on existing servers and always seem to end up having to fall back to ISO-8859-1. Where exactly do I need to set the encoding/charsets? I'm aware that I need to configure Apache, MySQL and PHP to do this - is there some standard checklist I can follow, or perhaps troubleshoot where the mismatches occur? This is for a new Linux server, running MySQL 5, PHP 5 and Apache 2.

How to support full Unicode in MySQL databases · Mathias Bynens

Saved by uncleflo on January 20th, 2015.

For a long time, I was using MySQL’s utf8 charset for databases, tables, and columns, assuming it mapped to the UTF-8 encoding described above. By using utf8, I’d be able to store any symbol I want in my database — or so I thought. While writing about JavaScript’s internal character encoding, I noticed that there was no way to insert the U+1D306 TETRAGRAM FOR CENTRE (팆) symbol into the MySQL database behind this site. The column I was trying to update had the utf8_unicode_ci collation, and the connection charset was set to utf8.

Handling Unicode Front to Back in a Web App

Saved by uncleflo on January 20th, 2015.

Understanding encoding is all fine and good, but there are many gotchas involved in actually building a complex system consisting of many moving parts that uses anything but ASCII characters. This article shows how to get a PHP web application with a MySQL database set up to handle UTF-8 data front to back and explains common pitfalls.

Regex Tutorial - Unicode Characters and Properties

Saved by uncleflo on January 20th, 2015.

Unicode is a character set that aims to define all characters and glyphs from all human languages, living and dead. With more and more software being required to support multiple languages, or even just any language, Unicode has been strongly gaining popularity in recent years. Using different character sets for different languages is simply too cumbersome for programmers and users.

The Art of Web ~ JavaScript: Escaping Special Characters

Saved by uncleflo on December 10th, 2014.

Every programming language has it's special characters - characters that mean something special such as identifying a variable, the end of a line or a break in some data. JavaScript is no different, so it provides a number of functions that encode and decode special characters. If you're interacting between PHP and JavaScript you will also need to be familiar with the PHP functions for encoding and decoding special characters, which is why we've created this special tool for testing and comparing different functions.

UTF-8: The Secret of Character Encoding - HTML Purifier

Saved by uncleflo on December 10th, 2014.

Character encoding and character sets are not that difficult to understand, but so many people blithely stumble through the worlds of programming without knowing what to actually do about it, or say "Ah, it's a job for those internationalization experts." No, it is not! This document will walk you through determining the encoding of your system and how you should handle this information. It will stay away from excessive discussion on the internals of character encoding. This document is not designed to be read in its entirety: it will slowly introduce concepts that build on each other: you need not get to the bottom to have learned something new. However, I strongly recommend you read all the way to Why UTF-8?, because at least at that point you'd have made a conscious decision not to migrate, which can be a rewarding (but difficult) task.
