Wikipedia - Regent's Canal

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regent%27s_Canal

Saved by uncleflo on December 20th, 2018.

Regent's Canal is a canal across an area just north of central London, England. It provides a link from the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal, 500 m north-west of Paddington Basin in the west, to the Limehouse Basin and the River Thames in east London. The canal is 13.8 kilometres (8.6 miles) long. First proposed by Thomas Homer in 1802 as a link from the Paddington arm of the then Grand Junction Canal (opened in 1801) with the River Thames at Limehouse, the Regent's Canal was built during the early 19th century after an Act of Parliament was passed in 1812. Noted architect and town planner John Nash was a director of the company; in 1811 he had produced a masterplan for the Prince Regent to redevelop a large area of central north London – as a result, the Regent’s Canal was included in the scheme, running for part of its distance along the northern edge of Regent's Park.

Living on a houseboat in London

Living on a houseboat in London: living on the water is no longer an alternative lifestyle choice as Londoners look to rivers and canals for better value homes. Londoners looking for a central home on a budget are hitting the water — and avoiding stamp duty in the process. The number of Londoners resorting to living on boats has rocketed — with many driven off dry land by the high price of conventional homes. The number of boats registered to be moored on London waterways has increased by nearly 60 per cent in the past five years to almost 4,000, according to latest figures from the Canal & River Trust, which manages 100 miles of canals in the capital including the Grand Union and Regent’s Canals. Many other floating households are in private marinas or at moorings along the Thames.

Drones are big business, and thousands of you would have received your very own for Christmas this year. The plummeting cost of components and the ease of buying remote controlled aircraft off the Internet has skyrocketed the use of consumer drones across the globe. Headlines are made every day, whether that’s new drones at CES, drones almost hitting passenger jets, or drones spying on unassuming victims. The CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) has already prosecuted two drone operators in the UK for breaching safety regulations, with numerous other investigations ongoing. In October, a man was arrested for operating a drone over Manchester City’s football stadium in a match with Tottenham Hotspur.

ANSWERED: Time limit on live streaming

Saved by uncleflo on October 23rd, 2018.

I read that there is a 25 minute limit on live streaming with the theta v? Why is this? Do you know if it can be changed? I was doing test with both 4K live streaming 2 and spatial audio 3. I don’t know the technical reason for this or if it can be fixed with software in the future. I’ll ask around. Update: I am closing this topic to help other people find the info they are looking for. The answer is that there is no time limit on live streaming. I’ve tested it for more than 2 hours. My test was in an air-conditioned room. We do not know if there will be overheating problems in the future, but we know that there is no technical limit on live-streaming.

Best Cruising Catamaran

https://www.cruisingworld.com/best-cruising-catamaran-HH-55

Saved by uncleflo on September 14th, 2018.

Another category that showcased great diversity in design and execution was the cruising cats. The HH 55 from China unanimously claimed the prize. In this unusual Boat of the Year fleet, the Best Cruising Catamaran class was yet another category made up of three boats that were very different in terms of size and execution: the 38-foot Maine Cat 38, the 47-foot Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 and the 55-foot HH 55. All three addressed their respective stated purposes very well, once again leaving the judges a challenging task in sorting out a winner. “We’ve got small, medium and large in this class,” said Bill Bolin. Starting with the smallest of the three, the Maine Cat 38 was, according to its entry form, “a performance cruising multihull designed to be fast, comfortable and easy to singlehand from a central weather-protected helm with excellent 360-degree visibility.” Built of thermoformed Corecell-infused polyester resin, it was one of the highest of high-tech boats in the entire contest.

Review of Catamaran Designers

http://www.time-for-a-catamaran-adventure.com/review-of-catamaran-designers/

Saved by uncleflo on September 14th, 2018.

If you have carefully reviewed our “9 Essential Features for the Cruising Catamaran” you are now armed with the things to look for in a catamaran design. Our evaluation of the designers and their designs is from the point of view of the home builder. This means we are looking at the boats that can be readily built by an individual or husband/wife team. As Richard Woods says in his literature, “Boats of over 40 feet should not be built by the solo home builder because they just take too long. Life is too short,” and I would agree. The boatyards and backyards of the world are littered with uncompleted boats which have simply overwhelmed their builders. The comments that follow may be a little candid but they are based on our boat- building experience. All the boats described below, if built properly, are ocean-going boats. Our ratings of these designers are not an evaluation on whether their designs are good or bad, but more on their suitability for you building the design as a solo home builder. Some of their larger designs may also be good projects only if you are going to have the boat custom built for you or if you have hired help assisting you in your project.

GNU gettext utilities

https://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/gettext.html#Why

Saved by uncleflo on June 29th, 2018.

Usually, programs are written and documented in English, and use English at execution time to interact with users. This is true not only of GNU software, but also of a great deal of proprietary and free software. Using a common language is quite handy for communication between developers, maintainers and users from all countries. On the other hand, most people are less comfortable with English than with their own native language, and would prefer to use their mother tongue for day to day’s work, as far as possible. Many would simply love to see their computer screen showing a lot less of English, and far more of their own language. However, to many people, this dream might appear so far fetched that they may believe it is not even worth spending time thinking about it. They have no confidence at all that the dream might ever become true. Yet some have not lost hope, and have organized themselves. The Translation Project is a formalization of this hope into a workable structure, which has a good chance to get all of us nearer the achievement of a truly multi-lingual set of programs. GNU gettext is an important step for the Translation Project, as it is an asset on which we may build many other steps. This package offers to programmers, translators and even users, a well integrated set of tools and documentation. Specifically, the GNU gettext utilities are a set of tools that provides a framework within which other free packages may produce multi-lingual messages.

Data Warehousing Summary Tables

Saved by uncleflo on June 27th, 2018.

This document discusses the creation and maintenance of "Summary Tables". It is a companion to the document on Data Warehousing Techniques. The basic terminology ("Fact Table", "Normalization", etc) is covered in that document. Summary tables are a performance necessity for large tables. MariaDB and MySQL do not provide any automated way to create such, so I am providing techniques here. (Other vendors provide something similar with "materialized views".) When you have millions or billions of rows, it takes a long time to summarize the data to present counts, totals, averages, etc, in a size that is readily digestible by humans. By computing and saving subtotals as the data comes in, one can make "reports" run much faster. (I have seen 10x to 1000x speedups.) The subtotals go into a "summary table". This document guides you on efficiency in both creating and using such tables.

Do you like TV ads? How about magazine ads? Do you pay attention to them or do you just skip them? Now let me ask you another question: Do you like stories? Do you enjoy being immersed into an exciting narrative allowing you to escape reality and enter a new world? I like stories. I like to let my brain follow the imaginative flow of a good story and visualise the narrative, the heroes, the actions and happenings of what I am reading, watching or experiencing. As a marketer you are probably used to relying more on hard facts and lists of benefits rather than engaging stories. That might have worked in the Mad Man era, but in the world of real-time, non-stop social interactions and online content it no longer does.

Human Body Heat as a Source for Thermoelectric Energy Generation

http://large.stanford.edu/courses/2016/ph240/stevens1/

Saved by uncleflo on May 31st, 2018.

The idea of converting human body heat into a form of usable energy has been targeted by scientists for years. A resting human male gives off roughly 100-120 Watts of energy. A very small fraction of this can be utilized by a thermoelectric device to power wearable devices. As an example, Seiko's Thermic Watch managed to capture continuous a charge at only one microwatt, so there is certainly a viable market that has not yet blossomed. It being known that 80% of a typical human's body power is given off as heat, current technologies can only produce a few milliwatts of energy. This is not nearly enough to charge your iPhone at a power input of roughly 5 watts, and unfortunately this sort of efficiency may never be possible.

MySQL allows a client session to acquire a table lock explicitly for preventing other sessions from accessing the table during a specific period. A client session can acquire or release table locks only for itself. It cannot acquire or release table locks for other sessions. Before going into detail, we will create a sample database named sampledb that includes a simple table named tbl to practice the table locking statements.

Where exactly do I need to set the encoding/charsets? I'm aware that I need to configure Apache, MySQL and PHP to do this - is there some standard checklist I can follow, or perhaps troubleshoot where the mismatches occur?
